A home for independence
The accommodation is comprised of 10 single units. Each unit comprises
a good sized bed sitting room with en-suite facilities. All units have
a refrigerator and basic kitchen arrangements. The units are situated
on both floors with a lift between them. They are let unfurnished apart
from carpets and curtains, residents provide their own furnishings in
order to make it their "own home". Residents have their own keys and come
and go as they wish.
A home with company and convenience
There is a residents lounge and a dining room where lunch and tea are
provided each day. On each floor there is a bathroom with special baths
for people with disabilities. The whole house is equipped with an alarm
system linked to individual rooms. A resident housekeeper looks after
the communal arrangements and keeps an eye on the residents well being.
Proven Management
In addition to working in accordance with Mrs Patterson's Will, the house
is run in association with the Arthritis Care/Abbeyfield Society and according
to their principles which work well in some 900 houses throughout the
country. The local joint Arthritis Care/Abbeyfield Committee is an independent
registered society regulated by the charity commissioners and is affiliated
to Arthritis Care as well as the Abbeyfield Society. A group of voluntary
persons, some of whom are members of the Exmouth Branch of Arthritis Care,
form a Board of Trustees to support and run the house.
